Rebuilt Old Bridge Mostar
Stari Most (English: Old Bridge) is the enduring image of Mostar in Bosnia Herzegovina. The 16th-century Ottoman bridge crossed the river Neretva and connected two parts of the city until it was destroyed in the war in November 1993. This is the reconstructed bridge opened in 2004.

The 2 hour train trip from Sarajevo to Mostar goes through rugged terrain, many tunnels, bridges and viaducts and some of the most beautiful scenery. The track was built during the Austro Hungarian Empire in the 1880s and I am sure it would be much too expensive for any government to build today.
The 3 carriage train left Sarajevo at 6.50 am. The carriages are old, they are not very clean so pictures are taken through dirty train windows. They were a gift from the Swedish Government but not sure how long ago. However it is still a fantastic trip.

Mostar has a Turkish Bazaar area which is now a mecca for tourists as well as mosques and minarets.

Even though australia is my home, my heart always remains in Bosnia, my birthplace. Sadly the war took the opportunity to grow up in this beautiful land but i am thankful for people like you, who show light on this beautiful place. It started my own blog, to continue showing people all around the world how beautiful Bosnia & Hercegovina (part where im from) is and why they should add it to their bucket lists. Ive done 3 separate trips back home in just 14 months and plan on going every year to re discover my roots. And its helped my bosnian language skills alot, as i mostly speak english at home. I HIGH RECOMMEND anyone traveling to Europe to add BOSNIA to their list. You wont regret it, and it will keep you coming back for more!

Thanks for the visit. I had a great experience meeting a young woman who had fled Sarajevo with her mother after the siege and now lived in Canada. She visited her grandparents frequently in Bosnia. It was a privilege to hear her story.

GORGEOUS photos, i have been there too, it really reminds me of the trip, especially that green coloured water. so unique. the bridge is such a beautiful design too. very graceful.

I went by train from Zargreb. 10 hours one class no buffet but occasional guy with basket selling coffee, crisps etc. Worth the journey as I share compartment with the lovely Yelena.
