Camping under desert oaks at Lake Disappointment
The land we travelled through was mostly Indigenous Protected Areas (IPA lands) which require a permit for access.
An Indigenous Protected Area is an area of Indigenous-owned land or sea where traditional owners have entered into an agreement with the Australian Government to promote biodiversity and cultural resource conservation. Indigenous Protected Areas make a significant contribution to Australian biodiversity conservation – making up over a third of Australia’s National Reserve System.

The last day we drove through Glen Aisle Station.

The cattle were all very well in their place but being woken at 11.35 pm by a bellow outside my tent didn’t endear me to them. It was not my imagination as there was clear evidence of cattle just behind my tent the following morning.
We camped at Lake Disappointment a large salt lake named by the explorer Frank Hann in 1897.

We know there are thousands of camels running wild in Central and Western Australia but we only saw a few and they were all at a distance.

Pat, I camped in Africa in very similar tents – no fly over the top so when it rained you couldn’t touch the canvas!

Indeed. He also named Misery Creek and other places in a similar vein. That is much of the history of Australian explorers.

I have been woken by a cow near Finke River ( Central Australia). Did you hear planes at night? Another intrusion of civilisation when you think you are away from it all.

I did not realise this was a common experience. We heard planes on our 3 rd last day we must have been under a flight path. Also some litter and a few corrugated iron long drops were other signs.

Interesting details Pat. The wild flowers are such bright colours too, which surprises.

So many more wild flowers than I imagined or I captured, mostly very bright but small flowers on bushes low tomthe ground and some grevillea like the honey grevillea pictured.

I well remember camping once with a cow licking the dew of the tent during the wee small hours of the night. Creepy feeling, know what you mean. Glad all is going so well for you…
